Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai was Thailand’s first ever National Park, created in 1961 and is considered to be one of the world's best national parks.  The park is supposed to offer the best chance of seeing wild elephants in all of Thailand with some 200-300 rumoured to be living inside the park.

Explore the park on foot during the day.  Undertake one of the many trails which suit all abilities - from gentle nature walk to serious jungle trek.  On these trails your guide will reveal the hidden secrets of the jungle and you may spot creatures big and small.  There is also an observation tower set up near a watering hole, where if you are patient enough, you may get to observe some wildlife coming to drink.

The park's many waterfalls are also a highlight.  Trek through the jungle to emerge at one of this picturesque falls, one of which was used for the filming of The Beach, although it is not safe for visitors to jump from these falls.
Explore the park with a night safari by vehicle.  It is at dusk that you have the best chances of spotting animals and you will see a different side to the park.

A must for nature lovers, it is hard to believe that this amazing national park is but 5 hours' drive from the megacity of Bangkok.
