Kanchanaburi

A pleasant city on the banks of the River Kwai, Kanchanaburi was originally built by Rama I as defence against the Burmese since the town is close to the famous Three Pagodas Pass in between Myanmar and Thailand.  There is much to do in the nearby area including many interesting war museums, a remnant of the area’s turbulent past, some moving Allied cemeteries, the Death Railway and of course the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai.
