Ambient and welcoming, the Anantara is an oasis of luxury in the beautiful but remote hills of Northern Thailand. With design reflecting the style of local hilltribes, including sumptuous weavings, carved teakwood and airy common spaces, the resort, while comfortable, also feels distinctly Thai.

Rooms are similarly decorated and feature private balconies and a deep terrazzo tub with room for two and views over the Mekong. They are so spacious and private you'll feel like you're in your own bungalow. There are two restaurants: a traditional Thai restaurant and an Italian restaurant, which features an extensive wine list and traditional Italian food, and the Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace is a great place for a drink as the sun goes down.

After a day exploring local hilltribe areas, indulge the senses with traditional massage and body treatments, yoga, facials and detoxifying baths at the Anantara spa, or simply relax by the infinity-edge pool overlooking the river and surrounding jungle.

A highlight of the resort is the Elephant Camp – be taught to ride by trained mahouts or simply watch the beautiful creatures bathe in the river. There is also a fully equipped fitness centre, tennis and squash courts and cooking school.
