Jaisalmer

Located in one of Rajasthan’s most Western points, Jaisalmer is but 100km from the border with Pakistan and has a true desert feel.

Constructed from a magical golden sandstone, this fortress town rises from the flat desert plains which stretch into the distance.  Inside the fort it is easy to imagine life as it has been lived for hundreds of years.  With no vehicles, small lanes filled with holy cows, temples and havelis hundreds of years old, Jaisalmer is full of character and atmosphere.

Highlights to visit are the temples, intricate havelis, some of the fortress’s gates and the Folklore museum.  For those with free time, the joy of Jaisalmer is simply to wander and explore the maze of lanes, stopping for some of the many shopping possibilities.  Antiques, fabrics and tapestries are all widely available here and are some of the best on offer in Rajasthan.

Outside of Jaisalmer, venture into the heart of the desert with a trip to the nearby sand dunes.  Here, it is possible to take a camel ride to watch the sun set over the dunes, a truly beautiful sight.
