Indochina Explorer

With its breathtaking landscapes, faded colonial charm and welcoming people, Indochina is an alluring and fascinating destination. Our Indochina Explorer encompasses enchanting Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, on a truly memorable journey of discovery.

Begin in Cambodia’s riverside capital, Phnom Penh, and enjoy the grandeur of colonial old world charm at the magnificent Raffles Hotel Le Royal, an exquisitely restored property and the city’s most luxurious. Take a cyclo ride, or stroll along the central quay, lined with restaurants that serve delicious Khmer cuisine. The fresh spices and aromatic herbs used in Khmer cooking create complex and vibrant flavours.

The beauty of the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda contrasts with the vivid remnants of Cambodia’s tragic recent past. Explore the fascinating Khmer National Museum and the haunting Tuol Sleng Museum for an insight into this country’s rich and turbulent history.
Siem Reap is the gateway to the magnificent Temples of Angkor and no journey to Cambodia is complete without an in-depth exploration of this ancient Khmer capital. Viewing the sunrise over Angkor Wat is an amazing introduction to this awesome temple complex, and wandering through the surrounding ruins of jungle-shrouded Ta Prohm and intricately carved Bantei Srei are other unforgettable experiences.

There is more to see in Siem Reap than just temples. We take an afternoon boat ride to the ecological marvel, Tonle Sap Lake, to visit the floating villages, schools, hospitals that create the lake’s vibrant communities. All of this and more is enjoyed from our base at the Raffles Grand d’Angkor, the finest property in Siem Reap.

With its intoxicating blend of French, Chinese and traditional Vietnamese influences evident in its cuisine, architecture and traditions it is easy to see why Vietnam is a hot travel destination. We start our journey in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), and stay at the historic Caravelle hotel, a city landmark known for its outstanding service, unbeatable location and fabulous rooftop bar. Explore the fascinating tunnel network at Cu Chi and feast on sumptuous seafood and fruits in the lush Mekong Delta.

Central Vietnam is home to two charming riverside towns – Hue and Hoi An. Discover Hue’s imperial past in the Citadel and the tombs of former Nguyen Dynasty emperors before driving south along the spectacular Hai Van Pass to the enchanting port town of Hoi An. Learn the art of Vietnamese cooking at a culinary demonstration and take a boat ride along the Thu Bon River.  Stay in the luxurious Life Resort, just a short walk from all of Hoi An’s attractions – restaurants, shopping and the bustling riverside market.

Another colonial icon, the Sofitel Metropole, is our base in captivating Hanoi, right in the heart of the city. Take a cyclo ride through the maze of streets in the Old Quarter, relax at lakeside cafés and cruise among the limestone islands of mystical Halong Bay.

We end our journey in the laidback, landlocked country of Laos where meandering rivers, pristine forests and friendly locals await. Vientiane is Southeast Asia’s sleepiest capital, and we will see why as we peruse the markets, linger over cool drinks at a riverside bar or relax in the luxurious ambience of the boutique Settha Palace hotel. Luang Prabang is Laos’ hidden gem, famous for its gilded monasteries, saffron-robed monks and lively night market. The town is surrounded by jungle mountains, and a short trip into the countryside will bring us to beautiful waterfalls. A visit to alluring Laos is a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable journey across three enchanting nations.
